The Burial Ground is adjacent to established woodland and our Organic farm. It is a wild natural environment which provides a thriving habitat for wild grasses, wild flowers, birds, insects and other wildlife. A tree is planted after a burial or interment of ashes and the Burial Ground will ultimately evolve into a mature woodland for perpetuity. We leave the burial ground to grow on naturally through the seasons, we do some trimming back of hedgerows outside of the bird nesting months and mow grassy paths during the summer, other than that it is left to grow on to provide a natural, wild, unspoiled peaceful environment in keeping with the surrounding beautiful Mole Valley and farmland.
Burials in Church yards or crematoriums have to be done within a certain time limit and can be rushed, whereas at our Burial Ground families can spend as long as they like at the Burial to say goodbye to a loved one and celebrate their life in a beautiful outdoor rural setting. Although we do not have any shelters for inclement weather you are welcome to erect your own Gazebo tent/canopy if you wish for the duration of the burial.
Our Service
Our service is simply to provide the plot for the burial, plots can be booked in advance, a Deed will then be issued giving the right to be buried at Mole Valley Green Burial Ground.
Families can undertake all the other arrangements themselves if they wish but most do use the services of a funeral director. You may also like to organise a celebrant to speak at the burial or have a religious service or for it to be just family and friends present, it is completely your choice.
Only biodegradable coffins, ashes urns or shrouds are permitted and the deceased must not be embalmed. With regard to grave digging you and/or the funeral director need to liaise with us in the first instance. We or the funeral director will then contact the gravedigger that we use for all burials at our Burial Ground. Headstones or other memorials are not permitted. We plant a tree which is the memorial to your loved one.

Green Burials
Green Burials are an alternative to the traditional Church or crematorium burial. An environmentally friendly way of gently returning to nature.
The Burial Ground is open from 8am to Dusk, 7 days a week. The burial plot will be easy to find shortly after a burial but understandably over time this will be more difficult as the grave area evolves and naturalises.
We record the grid reference of each plot and give the next of kin a map with the location of the grave marked. After each burial we can also provide the grid reference and what3words for the burial plot. If anyone is planning to visit and not sure of the exact location of a grave, we will be pleased to assist you on your arrival but please give 24 hours notice, as we are a working farm.
Car Parking
Car parking is in a field and there is approximately a 200 metre walk over to the burial ground. There are no formal paths, so care is needed. Wellington boots are recommended in the winter months and wet weather as gateways can be muddy
There are no toilet facilities at the Burial Ground
